The general form of soy sauce cruet, the breakthrough form that prevents any leakages, was originally developed by Hirota Glass in the 1970s, inspired by the function of dropper bottles for experiments.
Hirota Glass solved problems of leakages to the outside by firmly rubbing the body of the bottle to the glass stopper, greatly contributing to the spread of glass soy sauce cruet. We could say that Hirota Glass has changed the history of glass soy sauce cruet, and thus, the origin of soy sauce cruet.
The non-dripping, handy and stable Hirota Glass's original glass is now permanently preserved in the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, and is truly a historic masterpiece.
The soy sauce cruet received the "Good Design Long Life Design Award" in 2020, one of the highest honor for manufacturers.
My shopping experience at Shokunin was wonderful all around. The items I purchased are beautiful. They arrived very quickly from Japan, and the wrapping and packaging were beautifully done. Shipping costs were very reasonable considering that it’s coming from Japan to the US.
They also have great customer service.
I’m getting ready to place another order with them.

Hirota Glass
Original Soy Sauce Cruet
Please take a look at the using video 1 and the using video 2 as well. It is structured to perfectly prevent dripping. Though the user in the videos holds down the stopper when pouring, since its firmly joint with the body part, the stopper hardly falls out without holding it down. Further, as it could slowly pour the content, it truly is convenient when having tamago-kake-gohan (raw egg mixed with white rice).
Size: About Ø6xH10.5cm
Capacity: About 100ml
Weight: About 190g
Material: Soda Glass
Unavailable: Microwave/Dishwasher
*Each piece is individually hand-rubbed by a craftsman to rub the body and stopper together. Therefore, some of them may have large white areas where the glass has been rubbed together. In addition, the height of the base may vary depending on the degree of glass poured into the mold, and air bubbles may appear. Please understand that this is a characteristic of handmade work.
