During the 17th century, people living in cold areas, such as in Tohoku and Hokuriku Region, weren't able to obtain flowers during the wintertime. Therefore, instead of flowers, they began placing candles as an offering to their ancestors.
Nowadays, due to the characteristic beauty in the flames of Japanese candles, they have become very useful as an illumination that produces an image of Japan, as interior decoration, and as souvenirs.
Nakamura Rousoku's decorated candles (Erousoku) are carefully hand-painted each individually by painters of Kyo-Yuzen (famous for Kimonos).
How about Nakamura Rousoku's Erousoku as an elaborate gift to someone who you rely on, rather than for utility goods?
