Tohoku Kogei, established in 1951, is the only manufacturer that conveys Tamamushi-nuri to the modern era.

Mrs. MacArthur has visited its' shop in 1949. And in 2013, the company's product was given by the prefectural governor to Caroline Kennedy who was the U.S. ambassador.

The surface is sprinkled with silver powder and finished with transparent colored lacquer. Tamamushi lacquerware is characterized by its vivid coloring, which resembles the wings of a tamamushi (jewel beetle). It is also recommended as a wedding gift.

Tohoku Kogei
Piccolo Glass

The smallest Tamamushi lacquerware is a lovely, round glass. Tamamushi lacquer is applied to the smooth glass surface to create a transparent and delicate finish. The glass is both light in appearance and mouthfeel, and has a good thickness that makes it safe for daily use. It can be used as a drinking glass for your favorite sake, an aperitif, or a glass for juice. The inside is not painted and remains a glass surface, so it can also be used for cutlery with yogurt or appetizers. As the pair of green and red glasses comes in a red cosmetic box, it is a perfect gift for wedding anniversaries or for those who have taken care of you.
