A vessel with a spout on one side is called katakuchi. Long ago, nigorizake and amazake were generally made by famous families living in the Ashiro region, and were offered at drinking parties by transferring them from the casks to katakuchis. Other than in drinking parties, katakuchi could also be used as containers for sauce, dressing, and soba-tsuyu. The dining table would turn gorgeous as bowls are filled and flowers are arranged. As it is in a form unique to Japan, it is also recommended as a gift to people living outside of Japan.
